The Easiest Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
My homemade honey mustard dipping sauce is hands down the BEST and only dip you need for warm and chewy Gluten Free Soft Pretzels. Or try it with a blend of crunchy fresh produce on a veggie platter. But you don’t have to stop there — it makes a perfect salad dressing (we love it on Leftover Turkey Salad and an Ultimate Cobb Salad) or extra flavoring on roasted vegetables.
It comes together in less than 5 minutes and is a perfect balance of lightly sweet and lightly spicy. Here’s why this is a must-make for me:
- Guaranteed gluten-free. All of the ingredients in my honey mustard dipping sauce are naturally gluten-free, so everyone can enjoy it.
- No weird ingredients. You may never buy a bottle of honey mustard dressing again once you taste my DIY version! And you don’t have to worry about any preservatives or extras when you make it yourself.
- Easiest ever. Just stir together the ingredients and serve!
- Creamy and sweet-spicy. The Greek yogurt in this dip adds a wonderful creaminess plus a little tanginess to offset the spiciness of the mustard, and the honey adds a touch of sweetness.
What You’ll Need
Here’s an overview of the brief ingredients list needed for this sauce. I’ve included the full ingredient amounts in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Spicy Brown Mustard: A smooth, spicy mustard such as Gulden’s or French’s brand works great here.
- Greek Yogurt: Full-fat or low-fat yogurt will work, but make sure that it is plain yogurt. If you need to make it dairy free, it’s fine to swap the yogurt for mayonnaise, but it will be a bit richer.
- Honey: Feel free to add a little more honey for a sweeter dip.
- Salt: Add salt to taste. I use fine sea salt.
Helpful Tips
- Try Dijon mustard. For slightly different flavor, use Dijon mustard in place of the spicy brown mustard.
- Make it dairy-free. For a dairy-free dipping sauce, swap non-dairy plain yogurt for the Greek yogurt or try mayonnaise.
- Adjust the sweetness. Honey varieties vary in sweetness, so add the honey 1 tablespoon at a time. If you prefer a less-sweet dip, use less honey and if you like it sweeter, add more!
- Add spices. To change the flavor of this dip a bit, add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic or onion powder, or fresh or dried herbs like thyme or oregano.
How to Store Extra Sauce
Place leftover sauce in an airtight container such as a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days. Give the dip a shake or a stir before serving after it’s been in the fridge.
Ways to Use It
As a dip, dressing, or drizzled over roasted veggies, you can’t go wrong with honey mustard dipping sauce!
- Salad. Almost any green salad takes well to honey mustard dressing, and I especially like it on my Harvest Salad instead of the balsamic dressing, or try it on Grilled Chicken Salad.
- As a chicken dip. The best dip, honey mustard dipping sauce is amazing when scooped up with Baked Chicken Tenders, Gluten Free Air Fryer Chicken Nuggets, or Gluten Free KFC Popcorn Chicken. You can even make a sandwich with Gluten Free Air Fryer Chicken Tenders on GF Hawaiian Rolls.
- For dipping veggies and apps. Make a fresh vegetable platter with carrots, sliced red onion, celery, and more and serve it with honey mustard dip. Or use it for dunking crunchy Air Fryer Fried Pickles, fun and easy Chef Salad Sticks, or crispy Cheesy Quinoa Veggie Bites.
- On roasted vegetables. Generously drizzle honey mustard sauce over a tray of Balsamic Roasted Vegetables or Roasted Cauliflower.
- As a glaze. Honey mustard dipping sauce makes a super, quick glaze for fish — try it on salmon using my method for Sesame Maple Broiled Salmon, grilled or air fryer boneless chicken thighs, or with Almond Crusted Chicken instead of the cherry sauce.
