Why You’ll Love This Maple Dijon Dressing
I get into serious food ruts. And I’m not talking eating meal prep teriyaki chicken all week for lunch or getting hooked on pumpkin pie and pumpkin muffins and all things pumpkin during the fall. I mean, like, years.
And one of my years-long obsessions is this maple Dijon salad dressing. I mean, doesn’t everyone love a deliciously creamy salad dressing? In fact, this one is the first thyt got my then-toddler (now teenager!) to devour a moiuntain of lefy greens. And I think it’ll do the same for you. Here’s why…
- Simple to prep. All you have to do is comebine a few simple pantry ingreidents and stir or shake them together. You’ll be skipping the storbought bottles once you see how easy it is and how much fresher it tastes.
- Great flavor. The Dijon gives it a bold pop of flavor, and the maple syrup adds that subtle, smoky sweetness. But you can also mix-and-match with different types of mustard and sweeteners to find your perfect combo.
- Creamy but light. I love to swap the usual mayo and excess of oil for Greek yogurt to get that creaminess. Plus just a little olive oil smooths out the flavor and texture. You’ll want to slather it on everything, and since it’s lighter, there’s no need to skimp on the salad dressing!
Recipe Ingredients and Substitutions
Here’s a brief rundown of what you need to make this easy salad dressing recipe, as well as swaps you can make to change things up or based on what you have on hand. Scroll down to the recipe card further down in the post for the full amounts and instructions on how to make it.
- Plain Greek yogurt. It’s your choice whentehr you want to use nonfart, low fat, or whole milk yogurt. Mayo can be substituted for a dairy-free option.
- Dijon mustard. Feel free to experiment wirth brown or yellow mustard for a change in the flavor profile.
- Maple syrup. Be sure to use real maple syrup for the best flavor, not pancake syrup. You can swap it out for honey for a slightly different flavor. You can even use a sugar free liquid sweetener to make it low carb.
- Olive oil.
- Apple cider vinegar. You can also use champagne vinegar, and even balsamic vinegar is a nice variation.
- Salt and pepper. Season to taste.
Tips for Success
- Whisk or shake. To make the dressing, you just combine the ingredients in a bowl and whisk till smooth, or add them all to a mason jar and give it a god shake. I actually love the OXO Salad Dressing Shaker because you can shake everything up in there, and, unlike a jar, it has a nice pour spout to make things less messy. And you can just toss it in the dishwasher.
- Adjust to taste. Some brands of Dijon mustard have a stronger flavor than others. I usually use Grey Poupon and I like that tangy, zippy flavor. But if it is too strong for you, then cut down on the mustard and replace the amount with more yogurt.
- Make it fat-free, if needed. You can use nonfat yogurt and omit the olive oil. Add a little extra vinegar or milk to adjust the thickness, if needed.
- Store it properly. Keep the salad dressing refrigerated in a sealed jar or airtight container for up to four days.
Make it a Meal
Of course you can use it on salad. Some of my favorites are this summery Chicken and Peach Salad and a hearty Chicken Cobb Salad. But there are lots of other options too. Here are some serving suggestions.
- Use as a marinade. Soak your chicken breasts or thighs in the dressing for severla hours before grilling, ot used it to make Maple Dijon Chicken Foil Packs.
- Serve with veggies. This makes a great dip for cucumbers, carrots, or other raw veggies on your crudites tray, but it’s also tasty with Air Fryer Carrots or even Air Fryer Onion Rings.
- Sauce your meat. Instead of gravy or barbecue sauce, try drizzling it on roast chicken or slow cooker turkey breast. It’s also tasty on Chef Salad Lettuce Wraps!

- 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar or champagne vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons real maple syrup

I’m actually in a salad rut, mostly because of laziness lately. I’ve been buying dressings instead of making them and honesty they are just not good, hence not wanting a salad. It’s soooo easy to put together homemade dressing, I actually think I have all the ingredients for this. It looks delicious!!

I hear ya about ruts – been making my banana mocha frappe since I posted it back in January almost every day for breakfast and I definitely get into dressing ruts too. This is a new one to get me out of boring oil & vinegar dressing rut!
