Gluten Free Apple Dessert Recipes

When fall arrives, it’s time to make and bake all the gluten-free apple desserts! Apple season calls for flaky Dutch apple pie, spiced apple cider donut cake, dreamy apple ice cream, and more treats from this collection of over 15 recipes with something for every apple craving. And every single apple dessert is gluten free!

Why You’ll Love These Apple Desserts
When apple season is here, I schedule a trip to a local apple orchard and load up on crisp, fresh apples! Apples are one of my favorite fruits, and maybe they are for you as well. Not only are they readily available at all times of the year, but they are also incredibly versatile. You can eat them sliced up for a snack with a little peanut butter or simply nibble on them plain or use them to add fresh flavor to savory dishes like Gluten Free Apple Stuffing, crunchy Maple Dijon Apple Coleslaw, and a spiced Cranberry Apple Chutney that’s always welcome on the holiday table.
But by far, I love using apples to complement sweet treats. That’s where apple desserts come in. This selection of gluten free apple desserts has something for everyone…
- Classic pies and pastries. A crumbly-topped Dutch apple pie, flaky turnovers, and a buttery apple crisp are the first thing that comes to mind when apples are in season.
- Cakes and baked goods. Donuts and cakes infused with apple cider, a lovely loaf, and even cupcakes are moist and irresistible.
- No-bake treats. When the weather is still warm, maybe you want a scoop of apple ice cream, or try apple cheesecake, apple dip, and more.
So go ahead – indulge yourself in these gorgeous apple desserts all throughout fall and beyond.
What Apples Are The Best For Baking?
The best kind of baking apple is one that is slightly tart and firm. You’ll want apples that hold their shape when subjected to the oven’s high temperatures. Some reliable apple varieties for baking include Braeburn, Cortland, Honey Gold, Jonathan, Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, and Newtown Pippin. In contrast, if you want to make applesauce, a softer apple that breaks down easily when cooked is ideal. Look for Golden Delicious or Red Delicious apples for making sauce.
In general, choose apples that are firm and unblemished – meaning that they should not have any obvious bruising, holes, or soft spots. Unless the recipe specifies otherwise, wash, peel, and core your apples before adding them to a pie or cake. If weight measurements aren’t given in the recipe, you can use this simple calculation to figure out how many apples you will need: One pound of apples equals roughly 2-2 1/2 cups chopped or sliced apples (about 3 medium apples).
