Easy Peppermint Dip for Christmas
Cuisine Inspiration: American
Primary Cooking Method: No-bake
Dietary Info: Gluten-free
Key Flavor: Sweet, tangy, peppermint
Skill Level: Easy
When it comes to the holidays, there are a few flavors that have to be part of your celebration. Maybe it’s Eggnog Cream Pies. Or the spiced goodness of a lovely Gingerbread Loaf. Then, of course, there is the candy cane. Peppermint treats abound this time of year, with candy canes working their way into cookies and cakes and more.
But to take it to another level, why not take all of your favorite holiday treats and dunk them into a dip made with candy canes? Combine that with the irresistible flavor of cheesecake and, of course, a little chocolate, and Santa won’t be the only one digging in! Here’s why…
- So simple. The beauty of this sweet cheesecake dip is that you only need five ingredients. And once you cream cheese is softened, it takes about five minutes to make.
- Not too minty. Peppermint is good. Toothpaste flavor isn’t. This dip gets its minty flavor just from the candy canes, not peppermint extract which can be overpowering.
- Gluten free. While cheesecake itself isn’t usually gluten free (unless you make my Gluten Free Cheesecake), cheesecake dips typically are. So this is a treat for everyone to enjoy.
Let’s make it…
Ingredients to Make Peppermint Dip
- Cream cheese. Let it soften to room temperature.
- Powdered sugar. While most are gluten free, be sure yours is, if necessary.
- Vanilla extract.
- Mini chocolate chips. These will distribute better than regular chips.
- Chopped candy canes or peppermint candies. While most candy canes on the market are not certified gluten free, most are gluten free, and some are even made in facilities that do not handle any gluten ingredients.
How to Make Peppermint Dip
Make the cheesecake mixture. Simply beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until it is smooth and creamy.
Add the mix-ins. Then fold in the chocolate chips and candy canes. You can even save a few to sprinkle on top after you transfer your peppermint dip to a serving bowl.
Tips for Making the Best Candy Cane Dip
- Let the cream cheese come to room temperature. This will ensure it blends nice and smooth and creamy.
- Check your powdered sugar. You might need to sift it if there are lumps.
- Use mini chips. Regular-sized cips won’t distribute as well and will be hard to scoop up.
- Don’t overstir. If you stir too much, the red on the candy canes will beleed into the dip and turn it pink.
What to Serve with Peppermint Cheesecake Dip
This easy peppermint dip is such a fun addition to any holiday party. It adds the flavors of the season and will have sugar plums dancing not only in your head but on your tastebuds as well. Once you’ve whipped it up, the only question is what to serve it with.
Traditional things to dunk in a cheesecake dip include:
- Graham crackers – regular or gluten free, to get that traditional combination of cheesecake with a graham cracker crust.
- Fruit – apple and pear slices would work and taste the best.
- Pretzels – regular or gluten free and perfect if you like that sweet and salty combo.
But as charcuterie boards became all the rage, along came the rise of dessert boards. And this candy cane dip is perfect to add to a platter of Christmas cookies, like these:
