Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow? Whatever you call this irresistible cereal snack mix, these 30+ Muddy Buddy Recipes are super easy to make and even easier to devour! This collection has every Muddy Buddy flavor you could possibly want, and they can all be made gluten free!
Is it called Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies?
Honestly, I never know what to call this delicious snack. You know the one I am talking about. The one with Chex cereal squares coated in peanut butter and chocolate, then tossed in powdered sugar.
Calling it Muddy Buddies is appropriate when you use dark or milk chocolate because they do have a “dirty” look about them. But when you make one of the muddy buddy recipes with white chocolate, the name doesn’t work at all.
The name Puppy Chow came about because it does resemble the appearance of a bowl of kibble. But first of all, it tastes so much better than dog food (at least humans think so). And second, it actually can be confusing since chocolate is definitely a bad thing for dogs to eat. This sweet treat is for people only!
Well, whatever you want to call this no-bake cereal snack mix, everyone will agree that it’s delicious! And they are now so many more versions of it than the original chocolate and peanut butter variety!
Are Muddy Buddies Gluten Free?
Of course, this will vary based on ingredients, but many Muddy Buddy and Puppy Chow recipes are one of the easiest sweet treats to make gluten free. You see, it starts with Chex cereal. And when it comes to what cereals are gluten free, Chex is at the top of the list. While gluten free folks have to avoid Wheat Chex, the Rice, Corn, and pretty much all of the flavored varieties are gluten free.
Generally, peanut butter is gluten free, as are most of the other nut butters you might use. Powdered sugar is usually gluten free too. But for the chocolate, you’ll want to check the labels just to make sure.
For these different muddy buddy flavors, you’ll find that most of the ingredients are already gluten free. Or you can make them with an easy-to-find substitute.
