Funky monkey chocolate banana smoothies are a deliciously healthy smoothie with a funky sounding name.
How funky is your monkey? How loose is your goose?
Sorry, my mom is a lifelong cheerleader and cheerleading coach. Sometimes that kind of silliness just comes out of me. But THIS isn’t silly. This glass of chocolate, peanut buttery, banana-y goodness masquerading as a rich dessert is good for you! It’s my Banana Chobani Funky Monkey Smoothie!
If you saw my Mama Monday post this week, you know I am talking protein. Especially Greek yogurt, and even more specifically, Chobani Greek yogurt. The awesome folks at Chobani sent me some samples of two of their newest flavors – 0% Pear and 2% Banana. I love eating these flavors, and making up a few recipes with them. Banana may be one of the most universally loved fruits, so of course Chobani had to add a Banana yogurt to their lineup. I know I’ve mentioned before how much I LOVE chocolate and peanut butter together. I mean, really, who doesn’t?! But I also think adding banana to that mix is super awesome.
I was already making smoothies with bananas, because I love the creaminess they add. But right now, with gestational diabetes, one banana is basically my carb limit for a snack, and then I can’t really add anything else, especially without having any protein in there to help balance those carbs. So Chobani 2% Banana is perfect for creating this Banana Chobani Funky Monkey Smoothie. All the protein with just enough sweetness from the yogurt. And I love the hint of tart, though if it to much for you, you can just add a bit of sugar or honey or Stevia, or whatever you choose. Then, add some cocoa powder and milk (I use almond milk to keep those carbs down), and, well, just look at it…
Funky monkey healthy smoothie in all its glory!
So you know you want to cap off your evenings with a chocolaty dessert. Just whip up a Banana Chobani Funky Monkey Smoothie and indulge while you are treating your body well! No guilt here!
Have you tried the new Banana Chobani? Do you have any new ideas for how I can enjoy it?
- 1 6 oz. container Chobani 2% Banana Greek yogurt, frozen and cut or broken into chunks (see Note)
- 1 c milk (I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk)
- 1 T peanut butter
- 1 T cocoa powder
- Optional: sugar, honey, Stevia, or sweetener of choice, to taste
- Combine frozen yogurt chunks, milk, peanut butter, and cocoa powder in a blender, and blend until smooth.
- Add optional sweetener, if desired.
- Pour into a glass and serve.
Freeze the entire cup, then pop it out and use a large, sharp knife to cut it into chunks.
Empty the cup into a plastic bap, pat it flat, freeze, then cut it into chunks.
Stir the yogurt, then pour into an ice cube tray. Once frozen, pop out the cubes.
All three methods worked well, but the ice cube tray was the easiest (and safest!).
