Why You’ll Love Nutella Cheesecake

I love no-bake desserts — my No-Bake Peach Cheesecake Bars and No-Bake Dulce de Leche Banana Cream Pie recipes are on the most-requested list — and this super easy no-bake Nutella cheesecake tops all! A creamy cheesecake base is swirled with everyone’s favorite dessert spread, and adding Greek yogurt to the filling balances the sweetness of the other ingredients beautifully. The homemade ganache layer spread over the cheesecake is the ultimate in decadence. Plus, you don’t need to turn on the oven! More highlights include:

  • Unforgettable. My husband said this was one of the best desserts I’ve ever made! It’s special enough to stand out from the crowd but easy enough to make regularly.
  • Festive. I love making Nutella cheesecake for Valentine’s Day, but it’s also fantastic for a summer dinner party because it doesn’t need to be baked.
  • So flavorful. You’ll taste the bittersweet chocolate, crisp Oreos, and Nutella in every bite!
  • Nutella! I love the combo of chocolate and hazelnut and this cheesecake delivers on huge Nutella flavor in every bite.
  • East to make gluten free. All you have to do is use gluten free Oreos or another brand of chocolate sandwich cookies when you make the crust.

What You’ll Need

Here’s a look at the ingredients that go into Nutella cheesecake, plus some notes on substitutions. The full ingredient amounts are included in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Crust: Oreo cookie crumbs — you can use storebought or homemade gluten free oreos — and unsalted butter are needed for the easy crust.
  • Heavy Cream: I really recommend using heavy cream for the ultimate smooth richness and ability to whip the cream fully.
  • Powdered Sugar: Make sure to sift the powdered sugar first to remove any clumps.
  • Cream Cheese: Use full-fat block cream cheese for the best results.
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Greek Yogurt: Full-fat or low-fat Greek yogurt is fine. I use plain Greek yogurt and vanilla also works, though you may wish to omit the vanilla extract if you use vanilla yogurt.
  • Pure Vanilla Extract: Or use vanilla bean paste.
  • Nutella: You can use name-brand Nutella spread or another chocolate-hazelnut spread of your choice for a similar flavor profile.
  • Ganache: Chocolate chips and heavy cream.
  • Garnish: More chocolate chips, mini chocolate chips, chocolate curls, or chopped hazelnuts for sprinkling on top, if desired.

How to Make This Nutella Cheesecake

Follow along with the photos below to get an idea of how to make this no-bake dessert, and find the detailed instructions in the recipe card lower down.

  • Make the crust. Crush the Oreos into crumbs then mix them with melted butter.
  • Add to pan. Pour the cookie crumbs into a 9-inch springform pan and press them into the bottom and sides.
  • Whip the cream. Beat the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • Prep the filling. Place the cream cheese, granulated sugar, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Beat the filling until smooth.
  • Add Nutella. Beat in the Nutella completely until smooth.
  • Fold in whipped cream. Start by folding in one-third of the whipped cream to lighten the mixture.
  • Finish the filling. Then fold in the remaining whipped cream until smooth and uniform.
  • Add filling and chill. Pour and smooth the filling into the crust. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  • Make the ganache. Add the hot cream to the chocolate chips and let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Mix. Stir the cream and chocolate together until smooth.
  • Finish the cheesecake. Pour the chocolate ganache over the cheesecake.
  • Garnish. Sprinkle the top of the cheesecake with chocolate chips, then chill it for an hour or so to set.

Tips for Success

  • Crust tips: Check out my post on making a Gluten Free Oreo Crust for more tips and tricks to prepare a perfect crust. Or try a Gluten Free Graham Cracker Crust for a more traditional cheesecake pairing.
  • Oreo choice: Not gluten-free? Just use regular Oreos and follow the recipe as written!
  • Use heavy cream: For a firm cheesecake, you’ll need to stick with heavy cream and full-fat cream cheese. Half-and-half won’t whip to firm peaks, and low-fat cream cheese, while it can be used, will result in a softer set. I do not recommend fat-free cream cheese.
  • Try Cool Whip: If you want a semi-homemade option, replace the whipped cream and powdered sugar with an 8-ounce container of Cool Whip.
  • Let it rest: You can enjoy the cheesecake within several hours, but giving it overnight or even a couple of days in the fridge allows the flavors to blend even more. My family loved it even more after a few days.

Decorating and Topping Ideas

Keep this cheesecake simple with chocolate ganache or try a few other options:

  • Whipped cream: Omit the ganache topping or use the extra heavy cream to make freshly whipped cream. You can beat ¾ cup with 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar and a splash of vanilla extract.
  • Nutella: Slightly melt a few tablespoons of Nutella and drizzle it over the top of the finished cheesecake.
  • Nuts: Sprinkle chopped, toasted hazelnuts or almonds over the top of the cake or individual slices.
  • Candy: Add chopped pieces of Ferrero Rocher to the top of the cheesecake, or unwrap the candies, leave them whole, and arrange them around the edge of the cake.
  • Glaze: Drizzle homemade Chocolate Glaze in a decorative pattern over the top of the cheesecake or add a spoonful to individual slices.

How to Store Cheesecake

Nutella cheesecake doesn’t last too long in my house, but if I have leftovers here’s how I store them:

  • Fridge – Cover the cheesecake tightly with foil or place it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer – Wrap the whole cheesecake with plastic wrap, or wrap slices in plastic wrap place them in a freezer-safe container, and store them in the freezer for up to 1 month. Thaw the cheesecake in the fridge before serving.

No-Bake Nutella Cheesecake

Nutella cheesecake is served on a sweet, homemade Oreo crust and topped with a thick chocolate ganache to make a decadent no bake dessert.
Prep: 30 minutes
Chill Time 5 hours
Total: 5 hours 30 minutes
Servings: 12 servings

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 ½ cups (one 12.06 oz., 342 g package, 30 cookies) Gluten Free Oreo cookie crumbs
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter , melted

For the filling:

  • 1 ¼ cups (295 mL) heavy cream, well chilled
  • ¼ cup (30 g) powdered sugar
  • 16 ounces (two 8-oz packages, 455 g) full-fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (60 g) plain Greek yogurt, at room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (180 g) Nutella chocolate-hazelnut spread

For the ganache topping:

  • cup chocolate chips
  • cup (80 mL) heavy cream
  • More chocolate chips , mini chocolate chips, chocolate curls, or chopped hazelnuts for sprinkling on top, if desired

Instructions

For the crust:

  • Add the Oreos to a food processor and pulse until they are crumbs. Add the melted butter and mix it together until it resembles wet sand.
  • Pour the cookie crumbs into a 9-inch springform pan. Press them into an even layer on the bottom and part way up the sides.
  • Place in the freezer to set for at least 10 minutes while you prepare the filling.

For the filling:

  • Pour the heavy cream into a large bowl (preferably a chilled bowl), and add the powdered sugar. Using a stand mixer with the whisk attachment or hand mixer with the whisk attachment or regular beaters, whip at medium-high speed until you form stiff peaks. Set aside or place in the
  • refrigerator while you finish preparing the rest of the filling.
  • In another mixing bowl, add the cream cheese, granulated sugar, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract. Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or hand mixer, beat at medium speed until the cream cheese is smooth and the granulated sugar has completely dissolved into the mixture, scraping down the sides as needed. Add the Nutella, then increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat for about 2 minutes, until smooth and creamy.
  • Transfer about one-third of the whipped cream to the cream cheese mixture and gently fold it in using a spatula. It’s fine to leave some streaks at this point. Add the remaining whipped cream and gently fold in completely.
  • Pour the filling into the chilled crust and smooth it out with an offset spatula.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to set.

For the ganache topping:

  • Once the cheesecake has chilled, prepare the topping. Place ⅓ cup of the chocolate chips in a heat-proof bowl.
  • Heat the heavy cream until just simmering in a saucepan or in the microwave. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for 5
  • minutes. After 5 minutes, stir well until the chocolate is smooth. Let cool slightly.
  • Pour the chocolate ganache over the cheesecake and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle with chocolate chips or curls or chopped hazelnuts, if desired.
  • Return the cheesecake for about an hour to the refrigerator to set the ganache. Carefully loosen the cheesecake from the rim of the springform pan using a knife or small offset spatula, then remove the rim. Use a sharp knife to cut into slices for serving, wiping the knife between each slice.

Thank you! These were the big hit at a cocktail party last weekend.
They’re also easy enough for kids to make.
I found glass shot glasses at the dollar store.

      Hi Cindy,
We use 3 oz. dessert shot glasses. If you want really nice ones, made of glass, look on Amazon. Otherwise, party supply stores usually carry them.

I would think you could make them 1-2 days ahead at the most. If you leave them refrigerated longer than that, I think the flavors will dull quite a bit.

  2. Oh boy, these are dang cute and sound so good too! I know what you mean about award shows. I can’t remember the last time I saw one because my hubby doesn’t watch them either and we’ve always only had one TV. Thank you for lining up to Tips and Tricks. I hope to see you again this week. I LOVE the Greek yogurt in these and the Nutella just completes it! Looks so yummy and your presentation is beautiful!

  4. There are few things better than a layered dessert like this with all different flavors and textures. Your husband should be happy to watch whatever you want as long as you keep making great recipes like this for him 🙂

  5. I’ll place money that these darling little shooters convinced your hubby that he really did want to watch the Oscars with you. At least until they were gone LOL
