Ingredients and Variations

You only need four ingredients to make these orange parfaits. But the best part is that this is just a guideline – you can easily substitute any of the ingredients. Here’s what you need and some ideas to switch things up. The full amounts are listed in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Greek yogurt. You can use plain, vanilla, or honey yogurt depending on how sweet you want it and what flavor you are looking for. You can also try a fruit flavor, or use a nondairy yogurt alternative for a dairy free option.
  • Orange. Cut into segments using the method described below. Feel free to substitute the oranges with anty other fruit such as raspberries, chopped strawberries, pineapple tidbits (fresh or canned), or banana.
  • Dark chocolate. Coarsely chopped. You can also use mini chocolate chips, or replace the dark chocolate with chopped milk or white chocolate.
  • Pistachios. I like to use roasted and salted nuts for a contrasting flavor, but you can use raw or simple toasted. Or try almonds, macadamia nuts, pecans, or your favorite nuts.

How to Segment an Orange

I like to use orange segments or supremes because you get the best, sweetest, juiciest part of the orange. The bitter rind and chewy membranes are completely removed. Here’s how you do it.

  • Remove the rind. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut off the top and bottom of the orange all the way to the flesh. Then place the orange on one of the flat sides and begin slicing off the rind, completely removing all of the white pith. Work your way around the orange until you’ve cut off the entire peel.
  • Cut the segments. Using the serrated knife, cut as closely to the membranes as possible and remove each of the segments, leaving the membrane.
  • Capture the juice. If you need any fresh juice for your recipe, squeeze the remaining membranes that should still all be attached to collect the juice in a cup or bowl.

How to Make Orange Yogurt Parfaits

It doesn’t get any easier. Simply divide all of the ingredients between two small bowls or glasses, layering and garnishing just how you like. You can also double or triple the ingredients if you need to make more orange parfaits.

Thanks for sharing this, Brianne, and for the full disclosure. You’re such an honest gal. I totally would’ve taken full credit for it 😉 I love that you use the Greek yogurt as a healthy base for what probably tastes like a rich, indulgent dessert. I want to run out right now to buy the ingredients to make this!

  2. Haha, my thoughts exactly on being a food blogger! Recipe ideas pretty much ONLY pop into my head in the middle of the night when I’m struggling to sleep (gah!). However, I don’t even bother Googling things to see if they’ve already been invented. I totally delude myself and just pretend that I’ve invented them. Until somebody tells me otherwise, I just roll with it. hahaha.

This is such an elegant and delicious looking dish. And yes, I agree it would be great for dessert too! I adore chocolate and orange together, and with the Greek yogurt? Wow, sounds heavenly.
