Creamy, juicy, sweet, tart, crunchy… and a pretty color combination. What’s not to love? But there are even more reasons to enjoy these parfaits:
- The delicious flavors and varied textures are a harmonious blend of creamy Greek yogurt, juicy orange segments, rich dark chocolate, and crunchy pistachios.
- This is a recipe you can enjoy for breakfast, dinner, lunch, snack, and even an elegant dessert.
- Besides being perfect for any time of the day, you can easily substitute any of the ingredients based on what you have on hand, or to create your favorite flavor profile.
- It’s made with simple ingredients, is naturally gluten free, and can easily be made dairy free.
Ingredients and Variations
You only need four ingredients to make these orange parfaits. But the best part is that this is just a guideline – you can easily substitute any of the ingredients. Here’s what you need and some ideas to switch things up. The full amounts are listed in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Greek yogurt. You can use plain, vanilla, or honey yogurt depending on how sweet you want it and what flavor you are looking for. You can also try a fruit flavor, or use a nondairy yogurt alternative for a dairy free option.
- Orange. Cut into segments using the method described below. Feel free to substitute the oranges with anty other fruit such as raspberries, chopped strawberries, pineapple tidbits (fresh or canned), or banana.
- Dark chocolate. Coarsely chopped. You can also use mini chocolate chips, or replace the dark chocolate with chopped milk or white chocolate.
- Pistachios. I like to use roasted and salted nuts for a contrasting flavor, but you can use raw or simple toasted. Or try almonds, macadamia nuts, pecans, or your favorite nuts.
How to Segment an Orange
I like to use orange segments or supremes because you get the best, sweetest, juiciest part of the orange. The bitter rind and chewy membranes are completely removed. Here’s how you do it.
- Remove the rind. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut off the top and bottom of the orange all the way to the flesh. Then place the orange on one of the flat sides and begin slicing off the rind, completely removing all of the white pith. Work your way around the orange until you’ve cut off the entire peel.
- Cut the segments. Using the serrated knife, cut as closely to the membranes as possible and remove each of the segments, leaving the membrane.
- Capture the juice. If you need any fresh juice for your recipe, squeeze the remaining membranes that should still all be attached to collect the juice in a cup or bowl.
How to Make Orange Yogurt Parfaits
It doesn’t get any easier. Simply divide all of the ingredients between two small bowls or glasses, layering and garnishing just how you like. You can also double or triple the ingredients if you need to make more orange parfaits.
More Easy Parfaits
I love layered treats at all times of the day. While these orange yogurt parfaits add a touch of elegance, you can make your parfaits fun, festive, fruity, and so much more. Here are a few more ideas for you…

Brianne,
Thanks for giving me the link to include in my upcoming Band Fruit Fundraiser Recipe Round Up! It will be published on 12/4/2013!
Thanks again!
oh these look so tasty!!! Thanks for Sharing at Show Me Your Plaid Monday’s!!
Thanks for the great party!
Such a beautiful presentation! I love this as a healthier alternative to a decadent dessert…
Sometimes healthy “treats” can be just as satisfying, especially when they are pretty.
I’ve so had this happen before! Sometimes I’m amazed that there are still new recipes to be discovered. Original or not, I think this is a lovely combination and I’m impressed you dreamed it up! 🙂
I think I just need to stop Googling 🙂
Those yogurt cups are beautiful! I love all the colors and the flavor combinations. They look delicious!
Thanks Isabel! I think assembling these was as much about the color combo as it was about the flavors of the ingredients 🙂
Thanks for sharing this, Brianne, and for the full disclosure. You’re such an honest gal. I totally would’ve taken full credit for it 😉 I love that you use the Greek yogurt as a healthy base for what probably tastes like a rich, indulgent dessert. I want to run out right now to buy the ingredients to make this!
I love Greek yogurt for making healthier desserts! It does have a bit of an indulgent taste and texture.
Oh my sweet goodness! Your yogurt cups look fabulous! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!
Haha, my thoughts exactly on being a food blogger! Recipe ideas pretty much ONLY pop into my head in the middle of the night when I’m struggling to sleep (gah!). However, I don’t even bother Googling things to see if they’ve already been invented. I totally delude myself and just pretend that I’ve invented them. Until somebody tells me otherwise, I just roll with it. hahaha.
Sounds like the right approach 🙂
I love the flavors in this. It’s fancy and healthy. (And I’ve never been to the Chobani shop, so as far as I’m concerned, this is totally original)
I did think it turned out pretty fancy for something so simple (and TOTALLY original 😉 )
Hey, it looks original to me…along with gorgeous, tasty and healthy! Can’t beat that!
I’m just going to keep convincing myself that I am creative 🙂
This would be so good… I wish dairy and me were friends!
I haven’t tried any dairy-free yogurts, but I bet it would be great with coconut milk yogurt!
That looks delicious, and since I have never been to NYC, I never would have known about the Chobani store! 🙂
Hehe, I totally outed myself!
just beautiful! looks amazing!
Thanks so much! I did love the colors!
Oh yum! Parfaits are great on hot nights!
Yes, they do make a nice no-cook dessert!
I wouldn’t even feel guilty about having these for breakfast! They’re too pretty!
Definitely acceptable for breakfast!
How pretty! And yummy, too 🙂
Thanks, I love the colors too!
This is such an elegant and delicious looking dish. And yes, I agree it would be great for dessert too! I adore chocolate and orange together, and with the Greek yogurt? Wow, sounds heavenly.
Thank you. Yes, I just thought they were so pretty that they could even be served at a dinner party for dessert.
These are simply gorgeous little cups of happiness! So many good things in there!
Thanks Conni, and thanks for hosting this fun event!
