How to Make Soft and Chewy Rice Krispie Treats

Some people wonder why their rice krispies treats turn out hard.  First, use enough marshmallows. Second, don't overcook the marshmallows. Third, don't pack the treats too tightly in the pan.

Melt the Marshmallows

Melt the butter, then add the marshmallows and heat until just melted. Stir in vanilla.

Add the Cereal

Pour the crispy rice cereal into the pot, then add some more marshmallows.

Stir to Coat

Gently mix until the cereal is fully coated with marshmallow.

Press into a Pan

Transfer the mixture to a parchment-lined pan and gently press the mixture to the corners and edges. Don't pack it too tightly.

Let them Cool

Let cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.

Cut and Serve

Cut your treats into squares and enjoy!
