This apple pie filling consists of apples, lemon juice, butter, sugar, brown sugar, cinamon, nutmeg, salt, and cornstarch. You can cut your apples in slices or chunks, dependong on whether you are using it in a pie or pastries, on whether you are using it as a topping.
Peel and slice or cut your apples. Toss with lemon juice to keep them from turning brown.
Heat water, butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to dissolve the sugar, then bring to a boil.
Stir in the apples, then cover and simmer until the apples are tender but not mushy.
Whisk cornstarch in water, then pour into the saucepan with the cooked apples.
Simmer for another 2-3 minutes, until thickened.
Let it cool before using in a pie or storing in jars.
You can also use it in pastries, spooned over pancakes, or just as an applesauce.
