Creamy Maple Dijon Salad Dressing is smooth and rich with a sweet and tangy flavor that livens up any salad. But it’s light and healthy because it’s made with Greek yogurt. Making your own homemade salad dressing couldn’t be easier – just shake up a few ingredients in a jar. Then, besides salads, you can slather it on sandwiches, pour it over chicken, or use it as a dip for veggies.

I get into serious food ruts. And I’m not talking eating meal prep teriyaki chicken all week for lunch or getting hooked on pumpkin pie and pumpkin muffins and all things pumpkin during October and November.

I mean, like, years.

I have been eating oatmeal for breakfast nearly every day for the past, oh, more than a decade. And it’s not like I change it up. I usually eat it plain, other than the period of about ten months I was making Mexican Chocolate Oatmeal nonstop.

Since I’ve been at home, first as a stay-at-home-mom, then as a work-from-home-mom, salads have been the daily go-to for me. For years I topped my salad with fruit and chicken and cheese, then topped it most frequently with Greek Yogurt Blue Cheese Dressing.

Till the day I had to tell the blue cheese to move over because there was a new dressing in town. Now my daily salad comes with a daily dose of Creamy Greek Yogurt Maple Dijon Dressing. We going on like seven years now.

Yes, it’s that yummy. Heck, it’s the first salad dressing recipe that got my then-toddler to devour a mountain of leafy greens.

Creamy Dijon Salad Dressing

Everyone loves a deliciously creamy salad dressing. But what you may not always love are the extra calories that come along with a dressing that is heavy on the mayo or oil or whatever else makes it creamy. And really, who wants to have a big plate of salad and just use one measly tablespoon of dressing?! Especially when it tastes this amazing.

So I love to substitute Greek yogurt to get that creaminess. Then I add just a bit of heart-healthy olive oil to smooth out the flavor and texture. It takes about three seconds to mix this up, with no funky preservatives or weird ingredients. The Dijon gives it a bold pop of flavor, and the maple syrup adds that subtle, smoky sweetness.

Homemade Maple Dijon Salad Dressing Recipe

Ingredients

  • Plain Greek yogurt
  • Dijon mustard
  • Maple syrup – always use real maple syrup, not pancake syrup
  • Olive oil
  • Apple cider vinegar – you can also use champagne vinegar
  • Salt and pepper

How to make it

All you have to do is combine everything in a bowl or a jar and shake it up or whisk until smooth. Then use right away or store in the refrigerator for up to four days.

Brianne’s pro recipe tips

  • Always use real maple syrup. That’s what gives it the lovely robust flavor and balanced amount of sweetness.
  • Some brands of Dijon mustard have a stronger flavor than others. I usually use Grey Poupon and I like that tangy, zippy flavor. But if it is too strong for you, then cut down on the mustard and replace the amount with more yogurt.
  • While you can whisk everything together in a bowl or shake it in a mason jar. But I really love the OXO Salad Dressing Shaker because you can shake everything up in there, and, unlike a jar, it has a nice pour spout to make things less messy. And you can just toss it in the dishwasher.

Variations

  • You can substitute honey for the maple syrup to make a honey Dijon dressing.
  • Balsamic vinegar is a tasty swap for the apple cider vinegar.
  • A low carb liquid sweetener plus whole milk Greek yogurt makes it keto-friendly.
  • If you’d like a fat free dressing, skip the oil and just use a little extra vinegar.
  • Up those probiotics with Raw Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar.

Salads to use it on

Besides salads, Dijon dressing makes a great marinade for chicken that you can grill or use to make Maple Dijon Chicken Foil Packs. You can drizzle it on roast chicken or slow cooker turkey breast. Or use it as a dip for veggies.

I stumbled upon this recipe on Pinterest while trying to find a maple dressing for a kale salad yesterday. I had most of these ingredients so I whipped up a half batch of dressing and oh my goodness! I used it on a salad with kale, sunflower seeds, apples, and cranberries. So good! My fiance and I both loved it so much I went back to the store for more kale so we could have this again tonight! Thanks for the yummy recipe!

We’ve recently decided to stop using products with so much added sugar, which means we have to make our own dressing. My husband and I are both big Greek yogurt fans, so I’m sure this will be on a salad at our house soon! Pinning. =)

I’m actually in a salad rut, mostly because of laziness lately. I’ve been buying dressings instead of making them and honesty they are just not good, hence not wanting a salad. It’s soooo easy to put together homemade dressing, I actually think I have all the ingredients for this. It looks delicious!!

This was really good, Brianne. I tried it at Amy’s and liked it so much that I am bringing it to a party today with a green salad.

This sounds delicious and I love that they are ingredients I almost always have on hand! Do you know the nutrition stats per tbsp for this dressing?

  10. I hear ya about ruts – been making my banana mocha frappe since I posted it back in January almost every day for breakfast and I definitely get into dressing ruts too. This is a new one to get me out of boring oil & vinegar dressing rut!
